For our Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics in Oberpfaffenhofen we are looking for a Student/in Robotics, Computer Science or similar (f/m/x) Path and Trajectory Planning for Planetary Rovers What to expect: Fully autonomous navigation for mobile systems is of great importance for applications in scenarios where communication to the operator is limited. In recent years, the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics has demonstrated the application of planetary rovers for autonomous exploration.
Open-source projects for mobile robot navigation have significantly matured in performance and reliability, particularly (but not exclusively) the Nav2 stack. The aim of this position is to evaluate these open-source solutions in the context of planetary rover navigation. Based on this evaluation, the role will involve extending and researching methods to further enhance the capabilities of these systems, with a focus on adapting them to the specific challenges of planetary exploration. Integration and testing will be carried out in both our full-robot simulation and on the physical rover.
We are seeking a motivated and talented student to join our research team as a working student, thesis candidate, or intern to contribute to path and trajectory planning for the LRU rover. The position duration is flexible, starting from a minimum of three months for an internship. For other roles, such as a Bachelor's or Master's thesis, or a working student position, the duration is negotiable based on the candidate's preferences and availability.
