Then the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures offers you exactly the right environment to complete your Master's or Bachelor's thesis. The "Sensor” team develops innovative optical technologies and is looking for student support with a hands-on mentality and enthusiasm for hardware-related, experimental work in the underwater sector.
Specifically, your work will centre around a range-gated camera system. Based on a nanosecond pulsed LED spotlight in synchronisation with an extremely fast camera, the system allows for improved visibility in turbid waters such as the North and Baltic Seas.
Your thesis will allow you to familiarise yourself with the latest camera technology (single photon imaging), time-of-flight systems, underwater system integration and the physics of light propagation in natural waters.
