Student research project/thesis, student activity Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place! For our Institute for Networked Energy Systems in Oldenburg, we are looking for a Student of energy technology, electrical engineering, physics or similar (m/f/x) Master's thesis: Modelling and simulation of a digital image (digital twin) of large-scale PV systems and photovoltaic power converter systems. What to expect: Would you like to work in an interactive, co-operative and international team? Are you interested in the latest advancements and future developments in the field of renewable energy technologies, with considerable focus on the condition assessment of photovoltaic power converter systems? Then the Institute of Networked Energy Systems is an attractive employer for you. Our primary research objective is to develop concepts and technologies that ensure a stable power system with high penetration of weather-dependent and decentralized power generation from renewable energies.
The Institute of Networked Energy Systems employs around 190 people at its sites in Oldenburg and Stuttgart, working on present-day challenges in systems engineering and system analysis for intelligent and efficient coupling of the electricity, heating, industry and transport sectors.
The department of Energy System Technology focuses on studying interactions between system-relevant energy technologies within networked structures in decentralized grids. In distribution grids, we are striving for new architectures for the future energy systems that can ensure robust grid operation under the fluctuating feed-in.
In the Grid Technology group, we investigate system-stabilizing network resources and their control strategies for decentralized power grid architectures with a high share of renewable primary energy sources. Additionally, we research in development of novel control algorithms for rapid activation of ancillary grid services in power electronic converters.
As part of the PV-DiStAnS-3 project, methods for the early detection of degradation and general condition assessment of photovoltaic power converter systems are being developed. For this purpose, data sets of faulty and fault-free power converter systems are generated in laboratory and field tests, which are used as training data for machine learning algorithms and for the (further) development of detection approaches. The aim of the project is to identify critical conditions and potential sources of faults in PV systems at an early stage.
As part of the PV-DiStAnS-3:
