Student Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place! For our Institute of Communications and Navigation at Oberpfaffenhofen we are looking for a Student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar (f/m/x) What to expect: The Optical Communication Terminals Group at the Institute of Communications and Navigation builds laser communication terminals for small satellite platforms. CMOS Image sensors are a promising high-resolution tool for real-time beam detection in fine-pointing assemblies. Before an experimental platform is employed on a satellite, it is tested in a lab setup on a breadboard using commercially available components.
You will help to set up an optical system designed to evaluate the beam detection capabilities of image sensors. After building a first working prototype, optical simulation software such as ZEMAX can then be used to further optimize the design parameters. Finally, the system will be integrated into a real-time computer environment that serves as controller-in-the-loop.
