Then this is your place!
For our Institute for AI Safety and Security in Sankt Augustin we are looking for a
Student computer science, mathematics, physics or similar (f/m/x)
Virtual reality and robot simulation with game engines
What to expect:
The Institute for AI Safety and Security provides research and development services in the field of AI-related methods, processes, algorithms and execution environments. The focus is on ensuring safety and security for AI-based solutions in ambitious application classes. “Safety and security by design” is a central aspect in this context, since it directly supports future requirements of safety-critical applications that are based on AI or integrate AI-based components.
Main Research Areas of the Institute for AI Safety and Security are:
  • Development processes and methods for safety-critical AI applications
  • Robust and reliable approaches to safeguard AI methods and algorithms
  • Safety and security in the context of AI-based applications
  • Management and use of sensitive data
  • Execution environments for AI-based applications
  • Innovative computation methods
The Department for Safety-Critical Data Infrastructures deals with data and information quality as well as the foundations for the development of secure, decentralized data infrastructures. One main area of the department is the development of methods and technologies with a focus on data sovereignty and semantic interoperability for critical and sensitive application scenarios.
Game engines make it possible to develop realistic scenarios in which robots can test movements, interactions and behaviours in a safe and controlled environment. By combining 3D visualisation and physical simulations, game engines create an ideal environment for the development and optimisation of robot applications before they are transferred to the real world.
The work is divided into the following tasks:
  • Collaboration in the development of 3D environments and simulations with Unreal Engine or Godot
  • Integration of physical robots into virtual environments for simulation and interaction
  • Support in the implementation and optimisation of movement algorithms and behaviour patterns of the robots in the virtual environment
  • Collaboration in analysing and adapting the simulations based on physical parameters
  • Support in testing and debugging simulations
  • Documentation and presentation of work results in the team
What we expect from you:
  • Bachelor's or Master's student of computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering
  • good written and spoken English knowledge
  • motivation and interest in robotics and game engines
  • structured and independent work
  • good Programming skills
  • knowledge of software engineering is a plus
  • knowledge of 3D modelling is a plus
  • knowledge of Godot and GDScript/C# or Unreal and C++ is a plus
  • knowledge of Python is a plus
  • optional experience with ROS is a plus
  • optional experience with network communication is a plus
What we offer:
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities.
