For our Institute of Vehicle Concepts in Stuttgart we are looking for a

Model Predictive Control for Virtually Coupled Train
What to expect:
The Institute of Vehicle Concepts is a systems institute. It works on and coordinates transportation-related research topics on new vehicle concepts and vehicle technologies. In the research field of vehicle energy concepts, we deal with the identification and design of innovative approaches for future rail vehicles. Our research and development work aim to optimize rail transport both nationally and internationally. Institute of Vehicle Concepts is looking for a Master's student for the research field of vehicle energy concepts for the further development and investigation of control and optimization methods for virtual coupled platoon of trains.
Your mission is to research application of model predictive control for optimal control and coordination of a virtually coupled platoon of trains. To implement it and evaluate the performance.
Your Tasks:
  • familiarize yourself with the existing multi-train simulation model built in Python
  • conduct literature research on model predictive control and its implementation in similar applications
  • design and implement model predictive control in the multi-train simulation
  • evaluate the performance of model predictive control for the platooning of trains in different scenarios

What we expect from you:
  • degree in applied computer science, engineering, natural sciences or comparable courses of study
  • interest in Model based development and system engineering
  • familiarity with Matlab/Simulink or Python
  • good written and spoken English and / or German skills
  • independent and motivated way of working
