Student Placement
Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!
For our Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven we are looking for
Student Computer Science, Egineering, Physics or similar (f/m/x)
Development of datasets and experiments for the 3D reconstruction of maritime objects
What to expect:
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of maritime security technologies and shape the future of critical infrastructure protection!
In today's interconnected world, the protection of critical infrastructure is crucial to a country's economic stability and social well-being. Our institute is dedicated to developing innovative concepts and cutting-edge technologies to protect critical maritime infrastructures.

The Methods and Processing research group is looking for bright minds who are enthusiastic about innovative technologies and research. If you like hands-on work and tinkering is your thing, then help us develop new concepts for securing maritime infrastructures. In your Master's thesis, you will not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also actively work on the development, construction and commissioning of experiments.

The centrepiece is the co-design and testing of an experiment for the 3D reconstruction of maritime objects. You will be part of a dedicated team and together implement a virtual version of the experimental setup to verify experimental parameters and quantify the performance of the system in a real environment. As part of the German Aerospace Centre, we offer you the opportunity to take your first steps in the world of science while participating in an exciting experiment.

Your mission:
  • Development, setup and commissioning of experiments to create data sets
  • Verification of experiments in a virtual environment and comparison of experimental and simulated measurement results
  • Support in the evaluation and assessment of measurement series with varying parameters to optimise the 3D reconstruction
  • The result of your work could even lead to a publication at a conference or in a journal. Join science and shape the future of maritime safety technologies with us!
What we expect from you:
  • An ongoing Master’s program in computer science, engineering, physics or related fields
  • Solid experience with programming in Python and optionally C++
  • Fluency in English
  • Team-oriented player, brimming with motivation, ready to thrive in a collaborative and ever-evolving environment
What we offer:
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.
