Summary

As a Senior Buyer, you will be the key procurement lead for New Business Projects. You will manage all aspects of material and service purchasing, from initial requisitions through delivery, ensuring adherence to Voith's quality, cost, and compliance standards. Your expertise will be critical in driving project success through effective supplier management and strategic purchasing.

Scope of Position

The Senior Buyer will:

  • Represent Voith professionally.
  • Procure and manage materials and services.
  • Expedite materials for on-time delivery.
  • Track and report purchasing savings.
  • Manage supplier relationships with data-driven performance reviews.
  • Support strategic supply chain initiatives.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers independently.

Responsibilities

  • Project Procurement Management: Manage the entire procurement process for assigned New Business Projects and other purchasing tasks, ensuring compliance with project timelines and budgetary limits.
  • Requisition and Scheduling: Manage project material requisitions and demands, developing purchasing schedules that synchronize with shop manufacturing timelines.
  • Supplier Sourcing and Evaluation: Issue RFQs, research and interview suppliers, and evaluate quotes through commercial analysis.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage purchase orders within budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement.
  • Order Execution and Management: Execute system demands to create purchase orders and manage orders through to material receipt, ensuring delivery.
  • Resolve material shortages proactively to minimize production and delivery impacts.
  • Project Support: Provide support for daily processes and develop solutions for change orders, transportation, and expediting within project management.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Create and review status reports, track project milestones, and identify risks.
  • Communicate material status, risks, and issues regularly to Planning, Project Management, and Quality teams. Liaise with internal customer service, planning, quality, and logistics to ensure on-time material deliveries.
  • Manage Risks: Observe, identify, and address risks during the project phase, ensuring timely resolution of supplier issues.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Act as the primary contact for suppliers, handling technical interfaces, commercial matters, warranty claims, back-charges, and liquidated damages.
  • Supplier Performance: Work with Quality to manage supplier performance and skills.
  • Performance Targets: Ensure that Quality, Delivery, Cost, Sustainability, and Risk Management targets are met and maintained.
  • Adhere to Voith Purchasing Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures. Follow Voith standards for establishing and qualifying new suppliers.
  • Project Support: Assist with special projects as directed by the Purchasing Manager.
  • System Maintenance: Ensure the accuracy and upkeep of Purchase Information records and Source lists within the purchasing system.
  • Review purchase variance reports for accuracy and recommend corrections to the Purchasing Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field. A relevant certification (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) is a plus.
  • Experience – At least 5 years in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in manufacturing or project-based settings.
  • Procurement Expertise – Extensive knowledge in sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier management, and cost analysis.
  • Technical Skills – Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAP or similar procurement software is an advantage.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Proficient in assessing procurement risks, analyzing market trends, and developing strategic purchasing solutions.
  • Communication & Negotiation – Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate contracts and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project & Time Management – Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Industry Knowledge – A thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain logistics, and procurement best practices.
  • Attention to Detail – Strong accuracy in managing purchase records, contracts, and financial documentation.
  • Team Collaboration – Capable of collaborating cross-functionally with Planning, Quality, Logistics, and Project Management teams.
