Join AWS’s Public Policy Team in Germany as Principal Public Policy. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months to be based in Berlin.

Would you like to be part of a public policy team focused on increasing awareness and adoption of Amazon Web Services (AWS)* and the utility cloud model in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH)? Do you have the experience in public policy and regulatory affairs and with government necessary to help further advance the public policy agenda of Amazon Web Services (AWS)*, a leading cloud platform provider?


Key job responsibilities
As the Senior Public Policy Manager, Economic Policy and Regulation, you will be responsible for engaging and partnering with policymakers, regulators, academia and other non-governmental groups in the field, in support of our business model. You will do so at the highest levels of government, policy-making and economic regulation community, to ensure the businesses can continue providing an innovative consumer-centric experience.

You will need to demonstrate an astute understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment for economic policy and regulation.
You will be a confident leader, but are also able to operate respectfully and collaboratively within wider regional and international structures.
The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. You must be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity.


A day in the life
You will lead external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, partnerships, and initiatives in support of these objectives. You will coordinate AWS engagement with relevant industry associations and wider coalitions, as well as think tanks and policy-making organization; and manage consultancy support.

Internally, you will interact with AWS business and AWS corporate functions, locally and globally, to develop and implement positioning and engagement strategies. The responsibilities require that candidates be willing and able to make frequent trips across DACH and international.

Our team initiates and maintains relationships with key legislators and regulators, associations, and advocacy groups worldwide to support business and product goals.

GRUNDQUALIFIKATIONEN

· Relevant years of experience in corporate affairs, public policy or government relations with proven significant achievements and expertise in regulated environments. That experienced has been gained in Government, industry, trade association or consultancy, political organizations or think tanks, preferably in the Internet/Tech environment.
· A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Corporate Communication, etc.). An advanced degree in Public Policy is preferred.
· Written and spoken fluency of German and English

BEVORZUGTE QUALIFIKATIONEN

· Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to information technology-related (IT) issues such as an “innovation agenda” and cloud computing related policies and regulations, including information security, privacy protection, liability limitation, Internet access, IT services, corporate compliance, requirements for critical services (such as utilities and telecommunications), and association leadership experience. Knowledge of U.S./European Union (EU) regulation frameworks and German policies related to regulated segments in IT and cloud computing issues is preferred.
· Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures as well as working independently.
· Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
· Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
· Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others.
· Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
· Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate, political and educational institution levels.
