Working on the Class 99 locomotive will offer you a unique opportunity to contribute to a groundbreaking product that is set to transform the rail industry. The innovative Bimodal Locomotive combines electric and diesel-electric operation, reducing carbon emissions and increasing operational flexibility on electrified and non-electrified lines. With cutting-edge technology, including advanced traction systems, integrated camera' systems and remote diagnostics, you'll be part of a team bringing sustainable and powerful solutions to the rail sector helping modernise transport and reduce environmental impact in a meaningful way.
Your Tasks and Responsibilities

About the Role:
As a Performance Engineer, you will lead exciting projects, driving innovation and guiding team success. You will have the opportunity to coach and mentor colleagues, shaping the future of the industry while leveraging your technical expertise and safety knowledge to tackle challenges. Through close collaboration with customers, you'll help build strong relationships, ensuring their needs are met while managing budgets and contracts to deliver exceptional results. Key Responsibilities:
•Showcase your deep understanding of system knowledge, applying performance improvement techniques and processes to drive real results.
•Liaise with centralised engineering functions and customers.
•Use your expertise in system engineering to lead design, development and optimise processes.
•Take ownership of reviewing and approving complex engineering designs, reports and investigations that impact the safe efficient operation of public transport systems.
•Deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on in service and system level defects, ensuring excellence in diagnostics and solutions.
•Tackle complex tasks head-on using your problem-solving skills to make a lasting impact.
•Craft high-quality technical and production reports that enhance both performance and operational efficiency.
•Leverage your expertise in interpreting legislation and standards to ensure top-tier health, safety and production outcomes across technical transport matters.
•Take a proactive role in identifying assessing and mitigating risk, while documenting compliance to keep safety systems at the highest standards.

What are we looking for?
Knowledge:
•­Understanding the design, operation and maintenance of Locomotives
•Familiarity with performance metrics related to locomotives such as operational reliability.
•Proficiency in statistical methods and performance modelling techniques to analyse data from Locomotive Systems
•Understanding of Locomotive control systems, including modern electronic and software based systems that impact performance.

Experiences:
•Previous roles in engineering, preferably with direct experience in the rail sector and more specifically, locomotives or rolling stock.
•Involvement in rail performance testing projects
•Experience in trouble shooting and resolving rail performance issues, including fault diagnosis and corrective measures.
•Experience in managing engineering projects.

Qualifications:
•A bachelor's degree in mechanical, electric systems or a related engineering discipline preferred, however, a HND with relevant experience will be considered.

Soft Skills:
•Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data and make informed decisions related to Locomotive performance.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present findings, work in partnership with teams and engage with stakeholders.
•Ability to effectively negotiate and persuade stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment across the board to achieve successful outcomes.
•A keen eye for detail to ensure precise results, reporting and adherence to safety and quality standards.
