We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Then this is your place! For our Institute of Communications and Navigation in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich we are looking for a Master Thesis Student in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or similar (f/m/x) Algebraic Set Reconciliation for Cryptocurrencies What to expect: The Institute of Communications and Navigation, located in Oberpfaffenhofen (close to Munich), works on the conception and analysis of communication and navigation systems involving satellites or designed for applications in aeronautics, transport and security. The activities range from fundamental research to technology demonstrations. Our aim is to push the boundaries of the feasible, and to be first in demonstrating new concepts.
The Information Transmission Group focuses on the design and the analysis of information transmission systems, with emphasis on the modulation, error control coding, signal processing and medium access control aspects. The Quantum-Resistant Cryptography group focusses the analysis and development of code-based post-quantum cryptosystems to ensure the long-term security of digital communication systems.
Set reconciliation problems arise frequently in distributed systems with multiple copies of data across different nodes. A prominent example are cryptocurrencies networks, in which nodes keep transaction databases that are periodically updated.
In this thesis, set reconciliation based on BCH codes is investigated. In particular, potential speed-ups of known decoding algorithms for BCH codes are considered. The improved methods are implemented in SageMath/Python and their performance is evaluated via simulations.
