Master Student Chemical, Process, Energy, Mechanical Engineering or similar (w/m/x)
Modelling of a real green methanol plant being built in Australia
What to expect:
Interested in contributing to the global energy transition? Join us in an exciting project to help build a green methanol plant in Australia!

Solar fuels, produced from sunlight, water and CO2, have immense potential to address complex challenges such as carbon-neutral aviation or shipping. DLR is a partner in a bilateral project between Germany and Australia to build the first of its kind plants that convert electricity and heat from concentrated solar power into green methanol.

The thesis will focus on modeling the different elements of the plant in order to decide on the optimal sizing of the main components and the operation strategy. With our guidance, you will be able to answer practical questions for the construction of the plant, such as what strategy to choose when grid electricity costs are high, or how large the plant's storage tanks should be to achieve the lowest production cost of green methanol.

If you are an enthusiastic student who wants to make a meaningful contribution, this is your chance to be part of a cutting-edge project that will directly advance the energy transition.
What we expect from you:
  • Master’s degree in final stage in chemical, process, mechanical, energy engineering or similar
  • Fluent English language skills complete your profile.
  • Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR.
  • Experience in simulation programs (i.e. Aspen, Ebsilon and similar) is an advantage.
  • Experience in techno-economic analysis and cost calculation is desirable.
What we offer:
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular.
