For our location in Hamburg we are seeking:

Groupleader of the diagnostics group (MDI) in the accelerator division

Remuneration Group 15 | Unlimited | Starting date: 01.01.2025 | ID: MMA053/2024 | Deadline: 18.09.2024 | Full-time/Part-time | Remote work possible

DESY, with more than 3000 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.

The Machine, Diagnostics and Instrumentation (MDI) group consists of an international team of ca. 40 technicians, engineers and scientists. The group develops, designs and operates state-of-the-art electronic, mechanical and (electro)optical measuring instruments for observing, measuring and diagnosing the different particle beams in all of our accelerator facilities, including PETRA III, FLASH, the European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser (X-FEL) facility and plasma accelerators. The group MDI has the mission to provide world leading instruments for particle beam diagnostics for circular and linear accelerators. The whole lifcycle of the instruments (R&D, commissioning, maintenance and removal/renovation) is supported. New techniques have to be developed to fulfill the enhanced specifications of future accelerator projects, including the proposed PETRA IV project.

About your role:

  • Management of the group and leadership of the staff
  • Financial and personnel planning of the group
  • Coordination of R&D, construction, operation and maintenance of beam diagnostics and instrumentation in cooperation with the coordinators of the different DESY accelerators and the accelerator division director
  • Collaboration with international cooperation partners
  • Participation in seminars and meetings on the operation of existing and development of new accelerator facilities
  • Participation in congresses and publication of research results
Good reasons to join:

Look forward to a unique working environment on our international research campus. Respectful cooperation and the well-being of our DESY employees are particularly important to us. Gender equality is an important aspect for us. To support work life balance we offer flexible working hours, variable part-time, job-sharing models and participation in mobile work (up to 50%). You will benefit from our family-friendly and collegial atmosphere, our established health management and occupational pension provision. As a public funded employer, we offer you a secure workplace and facilitate your individual career with our comprehensive training and development opportunities. Remuneration is according to the regulations of the TV-AVH. DESY offers its employees a financial supplement for a German job ticket (Deutschland-Ticket) at both locations.

Unlimited

About you:
