For our institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven we are looking for
Engineer Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematician or similar (f/m/x)
Research assistant in the field of security research
What to expect:
The Research institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) focuses on maritime security research. Our work emphasizes data- and model-based analyses, as well as the development of tools for assessing and enhancing the security of maritime critical infrastructures. This includes utilizing innovative sensor technologies developed at our institute and across DLR.
Join a versatile and interdisciplinary team in a dynamic research environment where you will develop practical methods for threat mitigation, risk management, and resilience in maritime settings. You will specifically focus on researching and developing innovative approaches for the protection of maritime critical infrastructures and advanced solutions for decision support and leadership assistance for security authorities. This role involves active participation in projects, close collaboration with partner groups, and working with end-users to achieve practice-oriented results.
Your responsibilities are:
  • research and develop methods for security assessment, focusing on safety and threat mitigation for maritime infrastructures
  • develop decision-making and leadership support solutions for security authorities within the context of maritime infrastructures
  • scientific monitoring and testing of technologies and methods in collaboration with end-users
  • interdisciplinary collaboration with national and international research and user groups
  • publish and present your research findings in academic journals and at conferences

What we expect from you:
  • a completed academic degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Engineering (e.g., Safety, Rescue, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, Operational, Systems Engineering), Sciences (e.g., Mathematics, Physics), Political Science, or other relevant fields
  • experience in project management and the management of externally funded projects is desirable
  • knowledge of structures of security authorities and their roles in hazard prevention, ideally in the context of critical infrastructures, is advantageous
