Scientific activities/projects Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place! For our Institute of Communications and Navigation in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich we are looking for Engineer Electrical/Information Technology, Physicist, Mathematician or similar (f/m/x) Systems engineering and project management for the evolution of satellite navigation systems, technical management of a research group What to expect: The Institute, and in particular the Navigation department, is developing new system proposals for next-generation satellite navigation.
The "Kepler" system proposal uses a new architecture and the implementation of key technologies to improve the performance, autonomy, robustness and integrity of the European Galileo navigation satellite system in future generations. In particular, optical inter-satellite links for high-precision time transfer and ranging, ultra-stable (optical) frequency references for the ground segment and an (optional) additional LEO constellation to complement and extend the MEO constellation play a decisive role.
A key aspect of this architecture is ensuring high-precision time synchronization and time distribution within the space segment, but also between the space and ground segments. This requires new approaches of timekeeping and synchronization (using optical free-space links). Work with us on this challenging topic and the future of satellite navigation. We need you to be a responsible and communicative team player with leadership qualities who likes to take the initiative.
You will head the existing cross-sectional group "Project Management & Systems Engineering". The research group bundles the expertise in the field of systems engineering and (technical) project management in the Navigation department and coordinates and manages the department's general research work on such issues. Especially for large, multilateral projects with miscellaneous partners, e.g. other departments od the institute and other DLR institutes as well as industry and other research institutions, the availability of bundled expertise in the areas of systems engineering and project management combined with a high level of scientific know-how is of crucial importance in order to ensure the success of the project and to achieve multi-disciplinary scientific results at the highest level. The group is also responsible for research activities and the development of synchronization concepts and time scale generation (in theory and in practice), primarily using optical technologies.
You will tackle this multidisciplinary challenge together with us in the department and an existing team of scientists.
We offer you the opportunity to work on innovative research projects with state-of-the-art technology in an ambitious international environment in which you can help shape the research direction of the institute and further develop your skills. Flexible working hours including an individual agreement on mobile working are part of our offer to you. What we expect from you:
What we offer: DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified. Further information: Starting date: immediately
Duration of contract: 3 years Type of employment: Full-time (part-time possible) Remuneration: up to German TVöD 14
