Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!
For our Institute of Communications und Navigation, Department Satellite Networks in Oberpfaffenhofen in Oberpfaffenhofen we are looking for a
Engineer electrical engineering, computer science, communications engineering or similar (f/m/x)
Security Analysis of Quantum-Resistant Cryptosystems
What to expect:
The „Quantum-Resistant Cryptography” Group within the Satellite Networks department deals with the development and analysis of cryptographic schemes, that enable secure communication in the age of powerful quantum computers.
In particular, we develop and extend code-based cryptosystems, efficient en- and decryption algorithms as well as new methods for cryptanalysis.
Join us in shaping the future of quantum-resistant cryptosystems and be responsible for the following topics:
  • Your mission is to identify and analyze quantum-resistant encryption and authentication schemes that are suitable for applications in future cellular networks such as 5G/6G. This includes the analysis of quantum-resistant methods for securing 5G/6G networks with non-terrestrial components.
  • You will also pay special attention to cryptographic primitives that are currently in the NIST standardization process for quantum-resistant encryption and authentication schemes or that are recommended in recommendations for action by national security institutions such as the German Federal Office for Security (BSI).
  • Furthermore, you will consider the integration of the identified quantum-resistant cryptographic primitives into secure network protocols such as IKEv2 and analyze their performance with regard to various performance metrics. This requires the development of suitable test environments.
  • The publication of your research in journals and at conferences as well as the concrete implementation in national and international projects complete your scope of duties.
What we expect from you:
  • University degree (Master's / Diplom Uni) in engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, information technology, communications engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. mathematics) or other courses of study relevant to the job, with a minimum grade of "good”
  • Relevant professional experience, possibly with doctorate in one of the fields
  • Very good knowledge and many years of professional experience in the field of communications engineering and/or cryptography
  • Very good knowledge and extensive experience in the field of channel coding, especially with respect to general and alternative decoding metrics such as the sum-rank metric
  • Very good knowledge of cryptography and/or quantum computer-resistant cryptography as well as the underlying mathematical concepts, such as rings and/or finite bodies
  • Very good knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python/SageMath
  • Experience in planning and managing scientific research projects
  • Experience in presenting and publishing scientific research results
  • Very good knowledge of English
