Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!
For our Institute of Communications und Navigation, Department Satellite Networks in Oberpfaffenhofen we are looking for
Engineer electrical engineering, computer science, communications engineering or similar (f/m/x)
Security Analysis of Quantum-Resistant Cryptosystems
What to expect:
The „Quantum-Resistant Cryptography” Group within the Satellite Networks department deals with the development and analysis of cryptographic schemes, that enable secure communication in the age of powerful quantum computers.
In particular, we develop and extend code-based cryptosystems, efficient en- and decryption algorithms as well as new methods for cryptanalysis.
Join us in shaping the future of quantum-resistant cryptosystems and be responsible for the following topics:
  • Your mission is to analyze the security of encryption methods with respect to quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods. Here, the focus is on the analysis and identification of potential vulnerabilities. To perform the security analysis, you will develop corresponding quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods for code-based cryptographic primitives, based on the analysis of classical cryptanalysis methods.
  • You will research existing quantum-resistant encryption methods or relevant classical as well as quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods. In particular, you will focus on methods of the current NIST standardization in the area of quantum-resistant cryptography, which are based on error-correcting codes.
  • You will also pay special attention to analyzing the security of lattice-based cryptographic primitives by studying existing cryptanalysis methods. To this end, you will first study the underlying lattice problems in detail and then apply your findings to the development of quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods in practice.
  • Furthermore, you will cconsider the application and/or adaptation of cryptanalysis methods for code-based schemes to lattice-based schemes.
  • The publication of your research in journals and at conferences as well as the concrete implementation in national and international projects complete your scope of duties.
What we expect from you:
  • University degree (Master's / Diplom Uni) in engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, information technology, communications engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. mathematics) or other courses of study relevant to the job, with a minimum grade of "good”
  • Relevant professional experience, possibly with doctorate in one of the fields
  • Very good knowledge and many years of professional experience in the field of communications engineering and/or cryptography
  • Very good knowledge and extensive experience in the field of channel coding, especially with respect to general and alternative decoding metrics such as the sum-rank metric
  • Very good knowledge of cryptography and/or quantum computer-resistant cryptography as well as the underlying mathematical concepts, such as rings and/or finite bodies
  • Very good knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python/SageMath
  • Experience in planning and managing scientific research projects
  • Experience in presenting and publishing scientific research results
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR.
What we offer:
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.
