Design and Development Engineer - Mechanical Systems
We are looking to grow our team with the addition of a Design and Development Engineer – Advanced Mechanical Systems Technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for the
technology development and implementation of new equipment, components, tooling and custom automated systems that enable MSEI to meet its product quality, reliability, volume, delivery and cost objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in a cross-functional team leading the development and implementation of software configurable mechanical systems technologies for both miniaturized products and electronics
assembly technologies.
- Use 3D CAD, simulation tools, and 3D prototyping to rapidly create innovative, cost effective and reliable mechanical designs for product platforms and software configurable
manufacturing automation platforms.
- Program new custom equipment and update/configure existing equipment machine programs. Beckhoff TwinCat programming experience is preferred, along with PLC hardware
selection and configuration.
- Develop specifications for new mechanical equipment, components, tooling, and automated assembly systems. These cover the spectrum of mechanical components, mechanical
assembly tools and electrical test equipment.
- Implementation tasks including leading stage-gate approvals, documentation, supplier quality interface, characterization, verification and on-going sustaining support in a highly
automated manufacturing environment.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Mechatronics Engineering - Completion in <6yrs, with evidence of high academic achievement.
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, implement and complete innovative engineering projects and experiments on schedule
- Experience with design & build of complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills. Detail oriented.
- Demonstrated experience with 3-D Modeling for mechanical design of custom tooling and equipment (Solidworks or equivalent).
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Machining Skills: Basic tools, fabrication skills (e.g. hands-on experience).
- Experience with gantry and/or SCARA robots & programming desired.
- Experience with mechanical and optical metrology systems.
- Electronic skills: Basic digital/analog circuit design, PCB layout, electrical instrumentation, PLC programming.
- Planning/project management skills: MS-Project, Project Management Fundamentals training.
- Data analysis skills: Trained in DMAIC approach, with demonstrated use of data analysis with JMP, Minitab or equivalent.
- Proficiency in standard office productivity software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc...).
- Demonstrated ability to interface across multiple functions/organizations (Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Test, Module/System development) to drive closure on
projects.
- Demonstrated creativity with multiple examples of innovative solutions. U.S. or EU Patents desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership interest/ability intra/extracurricular .
