The Helmholtz program "From Matter to Materials and Life" (MML) coordinates research on pure and applied research raging from fundamental physics to the investigations of materials and novel investigations in the life sciences within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers.
DESY has an opening for a scientific manager/coordinator to support the spokesperson of the Helmholtz program "From Matter to Materials and Life" (MML) and the DESY director for Photon Science in their coordination and management tasks.
- Support of the speaker of the Helmholtz program "From Matter to Materials and Life" (MML)
- Coordinating and writing reports and proposals of the Helmholtz program "From Matter to Materials and Life" (MML) and the DESY Photon Science division, including reviewing and merging contributions from the program topics
- Coordination, preparation, conclusion, and assessment of management meetings of the MML speaker and the DESY Photon Science director
- Support of the MML speaker regarding program organization, incl. representative duties

Limited: 2 years with option for a permanent contract
- Scientific degree (Master or higher) in physics or related discipline or, alternatively, degree in science management plus broad experience with/understanding of physics and related scientific topics
- Extensive experience in science management
- Extensive experience in coordination of scientific and/or administrative projects
- Extensive experience in preparation and coordination of large(r) research proposals and reports
- Extensive experience in coordination, preparation, conclusion, and assessment of scientific and management meetings
- Ability to represent the MML speaker in management meetings
- Understanding of the Helmholtz context would be a strong plus, otherwise short-term guided self-education of Helmholtz structures is expected
- Strong team player, also in interdisciplinary collaborations
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and German
