For our Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center (RSC³) in Trauen we are looking for a
Student Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Mechanics or similar (f/m/x)
Automation of a Thermal-Vacuum-Testbed for Responsive Space
What to expect:
The Responsive Space Technology Evaluation Center (RSTEC) is a central facility of the Space Segment at DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center (RSC³). In this facility, the team researches all relevant steps of the Assembly Integration and Testing (AIT) phase in order to shorten development cycles of space missions. The Thermal Vacuum Chamber (TVAC) is one of the test setups at RSTEC. The TVAC is of central importance for thermal cycling testing which usually takes up a significant time during AIT. Therefore, test processes with the TVAC shall be improved through automation of the TVAC . This project will include theoretical and practical tasks from a various disciplines and is ideally suited to develop skills in the area of space engineering and testing. The Space Segment will support you throughout the whole project and will give you full access of our TVAC and all relevant sub-components. Your professional development is important to us and we will give you the freedom to succeed in your tasks.
Your tasks will include:
  • learning about and getting comfortable using existing TVAC
  • designing and collaboratively realizing improvements and automation features for the TVAC
  • execution of thermal cycling test in order to:
    • demonstrate effectiveness of realized measures
    • test thermal cycling software
What we expect from you:
  • technical field of study like aerospace engineering, physics, electronics, mechanics or similar
  • good communication skills
  • self-organised work
  • interest in interdisciplinary tasks:
    • electronics
    • mechanics
    • programming
  • very good language skill in German or English (ideally both)
  • ideally, basic knowledge of LabVIEW
  • ideally, experience in thermal cycling tests or thermal analysis in the field space engineering
  • ideally, experience in labview or comparable laboratory control software
